GRADUATION By: Frances M. McCrory-Meservy May 1962
May 1962 our class walked up on a platform and were handed diplomas. Somehow it symbolized the end of childhood. We tearfully hugged each other and shouted for joy.I was 18 but still looked like I was 12. The Theater owner came over, congratulated me and informed me I could no longer get in for ˝ price. He had never asked my age when I asked for a ticket: he would just hand me one. He was laughing when he said it. Most people thought I was a lot younger than I was.
My Mom hugged me and paid me the greatest compliment I have ever received. She said, "I always worried that you would become like some of the people you brought home. I will no longer worry because I realize that they became like you."
Our class had a bon fire and weenie roast in a classmate’s backyard.
I had Saturday and Sunday to rest and pack before moving into the dorm at Port Arthur College on Monday. Life was about to change.
1 Cor 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
