Subject: [MCCRORY] DNA Price Special Almost
Over
Family Tree DNA announced a special on DNA tests. This
reduced price special is valid from 26 November through 31
December for kits ordered and paid for by then. Since today
is 27 December, your opportunity to take advantage of this
offer is just about gone.
So, if you have been considering doing the DNA test, but were
looking for lower prices, now is the time to do it. I cannot
announce the price on a RootsWeb list, so contact me at
bobmclaren(at)earthlink.net for price information and how to
order. Since there isn't much time left, you need to do this
rapidly.
I am looking for males bearing the McCrory, McGrory, McRory,
MacRory, or other spelling variations to join our DNA
project. (McCrory, McGrory, McRory, MacRory, etc. are one of
the surnames of Clan MacLaren). Right now, we are at 365
members and steadily growing. (Males because the DNA test is
done on the Y-chromosome -- the male sex chromosome).
Additionally, if you are a male and descend from a male who
had one of the MacLaren surnames but your surname is
different due to adoption or name change (or other reasons),
you qualify if there is an unbroken male line back to the man
who carried one of the MacLaren surnames.
NOTE: There is also a McCrory Surname DNA Project at Family
Tree DNA and you can take advantage of this special through
them. However, no matter whether you join the MacLaren DNA
Project first, or the McCrory DNA Project first, you can join
the second one after you get your DNA results -- and at no
extra cost. I do recommend this.
The value of a DNA test is that if two men show identical, or
almost identical, DNA results, they are related (if
sufficient markers are tested). As such, it is a valuable aid
to our genealogy. It is not a silver bullet in itself, but a
valuable tool. The number in our project is sufficiently
large enough that we are starting to get matches between
tested members and in a number of cases we have established
relationships that these members did not know -- and
extending their genealogies back in time.
Based on my experience in administration of the Clan MacLaren
DNA project, I now recommend the 67-marker test. I will
accept the 37-marker test, but I find the 67-marker test much
more useful and powerful.
I hope a number of you buy yourself a belated Christmas
present and get tested. Or, buy a relative a test for
Christmas!!
I will be happy to answer any questions about the Clan
MacLaren Surname DNA Project.
Yours aye,
