These last two acquisitions are within a mile 01 ano owncu by William Patrick McCrory and within two miles of land owned by Chapman L. McCrory. These lands were very near Thomasville, Alabama in Clarke County. This provides ~~sonablc cvidonccof the close family rolrtinrship uI these three McCrory men, all of who were within seven years of being the same age.

Due to proximity of location and dates, there are several McCrciry tnrnn who might have descended from Lhi.s group. in searching for this prospects, several characteristics would have to be apparent: l)they would have been born between 1809 and the late 1820’s; 2)they would have to have settled in areas close to south central and western Mississippi; 3) they could not be tied closely tO me other Ncuiury residing in other areas of Alabama or Mississippi during this same time, and 41 they would not appear in any records (for these locations}prior to the early 1830’s.

John McCrory is listed in Butler County, precinct 11 in the 2855 real estate tax roll.

As Thomas D4cCrory is listed in the 2>29 year old category

iii the Lancaster, SC census. It is reasonable to assume his

birthdate was either 1808 or 1810.

Further reference is made to Thomas in the Diclr ionary of

Alabama Biography (p. 1103). This work gives a brief

hiography of Jesse 0. Mccrory, a state legislator from

conecuh Counuy (adjdcuttt Lu the SW corner of Butler County)

and a resident of Bowles, At. Jesse was married on

10/28/1886 to Fannie U. Kyser (daughter of Ceorger Kyser)

Jesse is listed as the son of William M. McCrory and Mary

Elli (Wggrnn) MrGrnry. He was the grandson of Thomas McCrorv

and Wi lliam and Jane Wagnon. This provides substantiation

of Thomas NcCrory having son named William N. {who married

Mary Ella Wagtion) The biography also indicates that

The ~~ederai Land records indicate that Thomas acquired additional land in Butler county in the 1850’s:

The presence of the Vickrey’s is further established in the

those listed for security. This provides further support

for Duke Vickrey’s beliefs about the Vickrey farLlily

During this same period other Mccrory families are found

living in the hale and Greene County areas. There are

possibly three hrotflers: is~iac, WiliidlLL, and thigh.

Offspring of these families included a Thomas and a John.

These families are reported (by research of Jim t4cCrory and

others) to have relocated from North Carolina to Alabama

bcfcro 1230. There ar~ snpar~te ¼nd records in the vicinty

of Hale and Greene to support this contention.

Additionally, census data contemporaneous to data for the

Butler courtLy NcCrorys, indicate these McCrorys are

distinctly ditterent set of families. While the Lancaster

Hugh, John, and Thomas appear in t e ancas er, ~ -

census, the Hale/Greene Mccrorys are listed in the 1830

Alabama Census. No ties have been found which link the

families in Hale/Greene County with those in Butler County.
