Thos. C. Mackey was short in stature, medium build inclined to sturdiness with a short neck and broad shoulders. He was industrious and a man of high integrity. It is sd. he was drafted for service in the War of 1812, but did not serve. It is probable he hired some relative or friend to serve in his place as many did.
He resided on a plantation on the S. side of Dry Crk. N. E. side of the Catawba River on the main road between Lancaster, S. C. and Camden, S. C. The court records indicate he owned several hundred acres of land in this vicinity and a few slaves, one of whom was old Hiram who remained with him until his death.
