I am looking for any information on William Patrick McCrory. He served in the 7th Regiment, Al Cavalry in the Civil War and is supposed to be buried in Friendship Baptist Church, Pine Apple. AL.

However, I cannot find any birth records for this man. His children settled in Monroe County AL, but his birth information is a mystery. Family history says he is a grandson of Thomas & Hannah McCrory, who came over from Antrim Ireland. Thomas and several of his sons fought in the Rev. War.

Does anyone have any information on W.P. McCrory?

Notes for THOMAS ELMORE MCCRORY:

Thomas was a private in the company commanded by Captain John Crawford in the War of 1812. He volunteered at Franklin, TN in 1812 for the term of three months and services were terminated as a honorable discharge. He was born near Nashville, TN. He was a farmer at the age of 21 when he enlisted. He was five feet seven inches, light complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair.

Found in the 1880 census in District 15, Williamson, Tennessee page 224D as a Farmer. Listed his father as being from Ireland and his mother from NC.

Thomas became a Colonel during the War of 1812. He was made a Colonel quickly because Gen. Jackson had a terrible time getting any solders to stay with him on the Indian campaigns. All the young men moved up fast. They were sick and tired of service after the trips to Mississippi and New Orleans. Mostly on foot. With everybody getting sick with the fevers and no food to eat and never enough supplies, it was a miserable experience. The Indian hunting trips were no better. These stories passed down in my family are backed up by Parton's History of Andrew Jackson in three volumes, Robert V. Remini's three vol. History of him and Parton's one volume history.

hi evelyn, i am o. william mccrory. they called him pat! he is my gg grandfather. i have his family bible. it says he was born sc may1, 1829. census says 1825. civil war records say several dates, pension says 1825. I am beginning to believe 1825 is right. he married susan jackson. md sept16,1847 in thomasville al. i have his marriage lic. he fought in civil war-was wounded at franklin tenn. his brother thomas elmore was killed there. i have pat's war records and several items he used during the war - co. c seventh calvary, con. states of america. pat's family all came to al in the 1830's from lancaster co sc.pat was just a young boy his other borther was a.j. mccrory, called ajax. the link missing in his entire line is names of his father and mother. others disagree on some things about pat but thats alright. I have been to pat,s old house to visit his granddaughter dozens of times. i have sat on his furrniture and read all the old papers and such that was boxed up in the closets. i have all the information on his entire line from him to present day.nellie, who used to live in his house is now dead. her father was william patrick mccrory,jr. they called him billy pat. lets look way back-hugh mccrory b.1705 md elisabeth jane elmore. their son captain thomas mccrory md hannah crawford. one record i have says thomas was born 1732, another says 1735. thomas and family came to america july 1, 1775. they set up house in nc., then his son thomas jr., aka col. thomas mccrory of the war of 1812. this thomas was b 1766 and married rachel shelby liggett who was b in 1772. he and wife first lived across the nc line in lancaster co. sc. most of their 12 children were born there and then some in tenn. one of his 7 sons was john b. 1789 sc. this is the john who married nancy vickrey. i believe one of the other sons of col. thomas mccrory is the father of william patrick mccrory b.1825. most of the stuff i have indicates it to be hugh b. abt 1791 sc. i go by the name of billy and my one son is named william patrick mccrory b 1969. these three patrick mccrorys are the only 3 i know of in my line. you probably have most of the stuff i left out, but if you want it and all the details and story's just let me know. my address isbilly mccrory, p o 593, frisco city,al 36445. e-mail me at anne@frontiernet.net. i live right in the middle of where the first mccrory's settled when all those brothers came here in a wagon train from sc. Under John clinton mccrory....Gladys Erian Butts died during the 60's. Around 1968 or 69, I was little. She was my grandmother, I am the 4th child of their son, Jack William McCrory Sr.
